Start of Production for Visund
The Visund field and the Snorre field share several similarities: both produce and process their own oil, and in both cases the oil is transported by pipeline to Gullfaks A for storage and export. Both fields also have some subsea wells.
Another similarity – one they also share with several other fields and installations – is that they have been developed and modified in several stages and phases.
They also differ in some respects. While the Snorre field is equipped with two platforms, the Visund field operates with only one. And whereas gas from Snorre is reinjected into the reservoir, gas from Visund is produced and transported to shore by pipeline via Kvitebjørn.
The Visund field was discovered in 1986, and the plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 1996. Visund initially started oil production and was later expanded to include gas production.[REMOVE]Fotnote: «Visund» on Norwegian Petroleum. https://www.norskpetroleum.no/en/facts/field/visund/ Downloaded 19 December 2025.
