Start of Production for Vigdis
The Vigdis field is developed with seven subsea templates and two satellite wells, all connected to Snorre A. This platform has a dedicated Vigdis module, which was lifted into place in August 1996.
Vigdis gas is injected into the Snorre reservoir, while the oil is processed before being sent onward to Gullfaks A. There, the oil is stored before being transported by ship.
Vigdis was discovered as early as 1986, and the plan for development and operation (PDO) was approved in 1994, but production did not begin until 1997.[REMOVE]Fotnote: «Vigdis» on Norwegian Petroleum. https://www.norskpetroleum.no/en/facts/field/vigdis/ Downloaded 18 December 20025.
The long period from discovery to production is probably related to the fact that production could only start once there was sufficient capacity for processing and storage on the Snorre A and Gullfaks A platforms, respectively.
