Bergens Tidende called Gullfaks B the North Sea’s ‘leap-year baby’, noting that the platform came on stream on 29 February 1988.

The piece also reports that production started nine months ahead of schedule and that, instead of costing NOK 12.1 billion, the platform would be NOK 3 billion cheaper.[REMOVE]Fotnote: Bergens Tidende, «Statfjord-feltet enormt lønnsom», 12 March 1988, 5, Nasjonalbiblioteket.

About a month after start-up, on 23 March 1988, Statoil CEO Harald Norvik presided over the platform’s official opening. This was Norvik’s first official assignment after succeeding Arve Johnsen as CEO.[REMOVE]Fotnote: Helge Hatlestad, Femti år med oljeproduksjon: Min historie (Stavanger: self-published, 2021), 62.
