On October 31, 2013, the Gullfaks license gained a new stakeholder: the Austrian oil company OMV acquired a 19% share.

Established in 1956, OMV is an Austrian oil and gas company that also engages in petrochemical production. By 2013, the company operated in 16 countries and was the largest listed company on the Austrian stock exchange.

OMV entered the Norwegian market in 2006, opening offices in Stavanger in 2007. Over the following years, the company gradually acquired stakes in selected licenses.
